Jane Alderdice - Featured Artist May 3 - July 5, 2025
Our featured artist for Our Garden of Earthly Delights show from May 3 - July 5, 2025 is Jane Alderdice.
Drawing, painting, and tapestry weaving: botany and botanical morphology, colours and textures tie these artistic disciplines together in Jane’s new small studio space in Kitchener, Ontario. She just relocated last fall from Cape Breton Island where she lived for over ten years.
A note from Jane:
As a new artist in the area, I am happy to have my work on the Featured Artist wall in the Artworks Gallery for the May-June 2025 show, “Our Garden of Earthly Delights”.
I have been drawing and working with textiles since I was a child. I got my beautiful Leclerc 4 harness loom when I was 20 years old and I have been weaving for decades. I began doing tapestry along the way. I taught tapestry weaving for a few years at Ewe Knit, a beautiful yarn shop on Bloor Street in Toronto’s west end. I continued teaching tapestry in my studio in Nova Scotia, and now will continue here in Ontario.
I studied textile design and received the 4-year diploma from the Ontario College of Art and Design in my late 20’s. I went back in 2009-10 and got a Bachelor of Design Degree.
While at the College, I took a number of painting courses in addition to the rigorous drawing, painting and colour courses required for design. And I have been painting with watercolours ever since, inspired and taught over time by many talented watercolorists.
A couple of years ago, I began studying botanical illustration with Olivia Braida-Chiusano in Sarasota, Florida. I am continuing with those studies.
I am happy to share my recent botanical paintings in this venue with the talented artists of the Artworks Gallery.
